some number of things make a post

Let's see if I still remember how to do any of this...

• feeling some mild shame over needing to use the rich text editor in order to wrangle bullet points, but oh well. I'm going to give myself points for even sitting down at my desktop to write a post in the first place. Baby steps.


• The revival of "retro" internet is wildly fascinating to me. neocities websites with tongue-in-cheek "under construction" gifs; times new roman on a repeating background; sharp gray windows 98 buttons and scrollbars. most of the people trying to recapture the aesthetic of mid/late 90s personal websites weren't even alive during it's heyday.


• Hilariously, I think what's *really* missing from the neocities experience is the preponderance of pop-up ads and banners. Nostalgia makes everything seem nicer than it really was.


• I feel this is true of all the people on tumblr loudly proclaiming that they'd rather go back to old social network sites than move to blusky/instagram/facebook if tumblr finally kicks the bucket. (Or if tumblr finally kills the few features it has that *work*.)


• Okay, gonna attempt raw html formatting for a bit here. I love my little wireless keyboard, but after sitting at my work desk all day it does feel kind of cramped. sigh


• I should log back onto livejournal and rescue the remainder of my icons.


• This icon is one I made in 2003, off some photograph I found on google and didn't bother to record the source of. I'm using it right now because we're in the middle of a spectacular lightning storm. If I lose power, I guess I'll see how functional this autosave is.


• I don't think I'll make that much of a habit of posting here. Maybe I'll try to whenever I sit down at my desktop; since I only do that once every few weeks, that's probably about as active as I'll be.


• I could log back into my writing blog! I could republish my writing blog! Who wants to see the kind of original nonsense I was cooking up in my teens and twenties? lolololol. I used to have an rss feed that would crosspost from wordpress/blogspot to livejournal. I could probably set something like that up again. Or I could maybe just import the whole thing. God, that would be a trip.

Currently reading: audio book of A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine. I'm enjoying it quite a bit; I really should've read it sooner. It fits in well with the Imperial Radch/Machineries of Empire zeitgeist of anti-colonial scifi.

Currently listening: Masterplan!!!! I went and got myself a Tidal subscription and I've been listening to a lot of symphonic/power metal while I work.

Currently watching: The Pitt, on my own. Slowly also working through One Piece s2 with le spouse. Engaging with The Pitt fandom in any way at all is some form of self harm, I'm pretty sure. I can't stop myself from scrolling through the tag on tumblr, but I really need to. Shipping Was A Mistake.

Currently drinking: had a Great Lakes Conway's Irish Ale earlier. Goal for tomorrow is no alcohol, and a proper amount of plain water. Maybe if I talk about health goals here I will actually hit some of them.
